The photography community at Believeinfilm.com is hosting a contest to choose the last of OldSchoolPhotoLab.com’s five ‘Analog Ambassadors’—everyone can vote for the person whom they would most like to see as the public face of film photography. Five candidates are vying for a free analog camera, film, and processing—not to mention expert advice and the exposure of blogging about their experiences with film photography for http://www.OldSchoolPhotoLab.com. Their entries—ranging from seasoned professionals to gutsy beginners—are presented for voting at http://believeinfilm.com/ambassador. Voting continues until 22 October.

Started in response to the imagined conflict between film and digital, the AnalogAambassador program is aimed at opening a broad conversation about the distinctive strengths of both types of photography. “Digital and analog are being styled as enemies, which does not benefit anyone,” says Steve Frank, owner of OldSchoolPhotoLab.com. “It’s not about which one is ‘better’—it’s about how to get the effect you’re looking for. We hope to make people aware of possibilities they did not recognize before.”

http://Believeinfilm.com is a website geared at building the analog photography community online, with photographer profiles, classified ads, and a community marketplace featuring specially-branded film photography products. "It is exciting to work with Oldschoolphotolab.com and the Analog Ambassador contest--combined our efforts will showcase the beauty and vitality of film photography in a digital world," says BelieveInFilm.com founder Gordon Boddington. "I am also particularly committed to drawing on the wisdom and experience of the online photography community and I can't wait to see which entry they choose."

OldSchoolPhotoLab.com's Analog Ambassador project and believeinfilm.com both intend to extend and strengthen the film community’s already significant online presence. Through social media channels and forums, film photographers use the Internet to connect with their peers, share their work, swap tips and tricks, and locate supplies and services. “The analog photography community on the web is really an amazing resource for people who want to get into film,” said OldSchoolPhotoLab.com owner Steve Frank. “Since we took our business online, we’ve been bowled over by its warmth and openness.”
